Kart Classes & RulesIn Malaysia, the competition for kart racing is sanctioned by the Automobile Association of Malaysia ( AAM ) which incorporates the International Karting Regulations of the CIK / FIA ( Commission Internationale de Karting / Federation Internationale de L'Automobile ), the world international motorsports body. As such, the kart classes run at our Shah Alam Stadium Circuit are influenced heavily by the classes permitted by both Kelab Kart Selangor & Wilayah Persekutuan ( KKS ) and AAM.

Formula 125 is in summary, a bigger engined version of the Formula 100 as it basically powered by water cooled two stroke 125 engine instead of the normal 100cc engine. As it is equipped with an electric starter and centrifugal clutch - starting is now a mere simple push of the button! The Parilla IAME Leopard engines are also low on maintenance although other makes are allowed to race. No modifications are allowed to the engine to ensure close racing. Weight limit for the 125 class is now at minimum 160kg, which will suit some of the bigger drivers. For your preview, an animated view of the new kart is shown beside; thanks to RV Engines in Australia. ( www.rvengines.com ) Visit them!

Formula V ( Veteran ) is another new category for the year, which is identical to the Formula 125 class except the age of the drives are restricted to above 40 years old. Both classes are currently limited to the Club racing only but with time & enough support, they could be introduced into the Kart Prix events in the short future!

Under City Karting Promotion's management, two categories of kart racing are organised and run; namely the Club Races and International Kart Prix competitions. Each has its own set of rules and requirements but in general, you only need to be a member of the Kelab Kart Selangor & Wilayah Persekutuan ( KKS ) to race in club events. For the Kart Prix events, you need a full racing license from the local motorsport regulating body; Automobile Association of Malaysia ( AAM ). For the Club Races, 5 classes of Sprint Karts are run. The karts raced are identical to the Kart Prix events.

Formula P is discontinued for 2002 due to poor support at the Kart Prix level. For most drivers in the P class, the natural progression is to the very competitive and popular 125 class.
The following Classification of Karts and its corresponding specification were extracted from the KKS's "Supplementary Regulations for all Kart Prix for the Year 2002". All karts shall comply with the AAM Specifications for Karts and specifically:
