Pre-Event Press Releases
Press Release : Pre-Event KBS Ford Malaysia Round 3, 2001
18th August 2001

Over the long weekend of 1st and 2nd September, the Shah Alam Stadium Kart Track will play host to the next round of the KBS Ford Malaysia Kart Prix Championship once again.

The upcoming event at Shah Alam is the 3rd round of the Championship which coincidentally kicked off for the year at this track, home of the Kelab Kart Selangor & Wilayah Persekutuan ( KKS ); the joint organiser of this international class kart competition event. The previous round was held at the Sepang International Go-Kart Circuit and this track promises on par thrills and excitement to both drivers and spectators alike.

In the line up of drivers for this event and we have the confirmed participation of yet a number of international drivers again. The highlight of this round must be the 5 new drivers from Brunei who has never driven at Shah Alam before but from their reputation, can still pose a challenge to the more experienced drivers. As per previous rounds, we are having yet again a strong contingent from Macau with a confirmed 4 driver team for this race at Shah Alam. For those who charted their past progress, the Macau drivers are fast and consistent till the very last race – as seen in the previous rounds.

City Karting is expecting about 100 drivers this round again – competing in 5 separate classes. The pinnacle event will be the Formula 100 where most of the foreign entries are expected. The other categories are the Formula Cadet where the youngsters between the ages of 7 to 12 race amongst themselves. These youngsters are Malaysia’s hope for the future Formula 1 Stars and this will be seen in their determined drive for a victory. The other races are in the category for Formula J, Formula 125 and Formula P. ( specification of each category is visible at our website www.citykarting.com )

Although many of the Malaysian drivers will have local knowledge of the Shah Alam track, kart racing is a sport with an element of luck and the winner is only known at the finish line at the very end. Unlike the last race in Shah Alam where the rain cloud stayed away, this round may see a wet race which may be an interesting variable for the drivers.

"When it rains, the track at Shah Alam will be pretty demanding as the track will be very wet with puddles along the racing line. This make driving very interesting and a delicate touch is required for everything" said Aaron Lim, our local star driver in Formula 100 class.

The event is jointly sponsored by Kementerian Belia & Sukan ( Ministry of Sport and Youth ) and Ford Malaysia since 1999. Local beverage company sponsored under 100Plus banner will also be out in force for the support of this event – Malaysia’s Premier Kart Event.

For a exciting weekend over the Merdeka holidays, do come and see for yourself the excitement of kart racing – entrance is free, so what are you waiting for? See Formula 1 for free!

See you trackside!
